Wedding Venue

Rooted in rich history and the deep culture of the South, our beginning dates back to 1676 when the Drayton family called Magnolia home. In 1870 they extended an invitation to visitors to experience the thousands of beautiful flowers in their famous romantic gardens. Today, at nearly 500 acres and with the distinction of being America’s oldest public gardens, we hope to extend the same gracious hospitality to your guests as the Drayton family did in the past to make your guests feel welcomed on your wedding day.

A National Historic Landmark, Middleton Place is an unforgettable setting for one-of-a-kind weddings – and an enduring, vibrant, essential part of the American experience. Its sweeping views of the Ashley River, iconic House Museum, moss-draped, centuries-old oak trees, meticulously manicured gardens bursting with color and sculpted terraces, an array of unique indoor and outdoor spaces for both the ceremony and reception, plus a 55-room Inn make Middleton Place one of Charleston’s most treasured wedding venues. Whether you’re dreaming of an intimate ceremony with friends and family, or a grand wedding weekend of myriad celebrations, we’ll help you craft memories that last a lifetime.

This charming, private property lies between Magnolia and Middleton Plantations in St. Andrew‘s parish. Like those gardens, Runnymede can be accessed from Ashley River Road. Your guests’ experience begins as soon as they enter through the iron gates, down a proper, picturesque dirt path surrounded by a canopy of centuries old trees, twisting vines and Spanish moss. At the road’s end, the forest opens up to
reveal a vast meadow displaying pristine lawns and
punctuated with magnolia trees and an oak tree so large it is a sight upon itself. Beyond the meadow, an unobstructed view of the Ashley River, lazily floating by provides the perfect backdrop for any event. The rich, Southern history is apparent through the brick ruins of the old Victorian style Plantation house, creating a romantic mystique, intensified as the night falls and the dramatic landscape lighting is cued.

Located on the beautifully landscaped grounds of Pepper Plantation, this award-winning, barn inspired pavilion is an ideal venue for your special event. The Pavilion is perfectly designed for hosting outdoor weddings, receptions, rehearsal dinners, corporate events or any other social gathering. Its deep lowcountry-style porches, exposed wooden beams, massive fireplaces, fire pits and a beautiful waterfront gazebo help to create a unique backdrop for a truly Southern Affair.
